Course objectives
The main objective of the course is a detailled information about education and support of visually impaired. At the end of the course, students should understand and work with information on: Categories of people with visual impairment, occurrence and causes, children with multiple handicap, deaf-blind children, peculiarities of psychical process by visually impaired, system of schools for visually impaired, counselling, special educational centres, technical aids, visual stimulation, mobility, guide dogs, spare time activities for visually impaired, vocational training, quality of life in visually impaired.
Learning outcomes
Student will be able to:
- Identify and summarize important areas of influence of severe visual impairment on everyday life;
- Identify and describe the specifics of support for educational needs and the process of educating pupils with visual impairments according to degree of VI and age;
- Understand the possibilities of vocational training and career choices for pupils with visual impairment;
- Apply basic recommendations for the education of pupils with visual impairments in practice;
- to know the offer of counseling support and services of various organizations in the promotion of people with VI focusing on age;
Syllabus
  • The target group of people with visual impairment. The impact of visual impairment on an individual's personality (perception, thinking, attention, behavior, speech). Psychomotor development of a child with severe visual impairment.
  • Physiology of vision process. Development of visual perception.
  • Visual impairment and its manifestations. Basic examination of vision and visual functions from the point of view of special education. Child with disturbed binocular vision and reeducation of these defects)
  • Early care, forms and services - basic information on the impact of visual stimulationat an early age on the use of vision in everyday life.
  • Special aids for the visually impaired and their use. Use of computer technology in the education of people with visual impairment.
  • Opportunities for education of pupils with visual impairments in the CR - support measures and school support for these pupils. Professional training.
  • Communication of Persons with visual impairment- Braille teaching and writing. Access to information.
  • Counseling and intervention: social service providers, services and counseling.
  • Mobility of the visually impaired.
  • A person with a multiple disability. Deafblind - Specifics of communication and education of deafblinds.
