Course objectives
The aim of the course is to acquaint students with education of pupils with visual impairment, didactic recommendations and specifics depending on the type and degree of visual impairment. Students will be introduced with supporting provision for children, pupils and students with visual impairment, with loss or weakened vision.
Learning outcomes
Student will be able to:
- identify and describe the necessary measures to support pupils with visual impairments in the school environment, focusing on age and degree of visual impairment;
- to apply in practice an analysis of the needs of pupils with visual impairment using the Catalog of Support Measures;
- understand the different levels of support measures for pupils with visual impairment;
- to focus on offer and use of special tools to promote the autonomy and educational process of partially sighted pupils and the blind;
Syllabus
  • The development of compensatory senses in a child with severe visual impairment before compulsory school attendance and Pre-Braille assessment. • Cooperation of school counseling facilities with the school in the field of intervention and support of pupils with visual impairment. • Legislation in force related to the implementation of support measures for children and pupils with visual impairment. • Educational environment for pupils with visual impairments depending on age and degree of visual loss. • Pedagogical diagnostics of pupils with visual impairments and areas of support in the process of education. • Counseling facilities and service providers for effective education of pupils with visual impairment, focusing on their age. • Support measures and their grades in the target group of pupils with visual impairment. • Personnel support measures provided according to valid legislation (teacher assistant, other teacher, special pedagogue and their role in the education of pupils with visual impairment). • Support measures of a material nature provided according to the valid legislation (special textbooks, aids and compensatory aids). • Support measures aimed at adapting the working environment and social support of visually impaired pupils and students (adaptation of the school microspace and macro-space, visual hygiene principles, external service providers for the visually impaired). • Specific competencies and strategies of pupils with visual impairments in the field of autonomy and self-service, education and training, depending on the degree visual loss. • Individual education plan (IVP) for a pupil with visual impairment - IVP characteristics and composition, IVP creation, cooperation with the school and school facilities in IVP creation. • Intervention and counseling in the field of special educational needs of pupils with visual impairments - didactic recommendations. • Special pedagogical intervention and counseling in children and pupils with binocular vision disorders. • Professional orientation, professional training and career counseling for pupils and students with visual impairment - special pedagogical support, counseling.
