Prerequisites
Prerequisites of the course are to gain orientation in the field of intellectual disability in the range of bachelor's degree, proper knowledge in the education system for pupils with intellectual disabilities.

Course objectives
The goal of the course is to adopt knowledge of teaching people with intellectual disabilities, to gain the current insights into special educational diagnostics and the system of education of pupils with intellectual disabilities, including inclusive education.
Learning outcomes
At the end of the course, students will be able to:
- have a general knowledge from the area of education for people with intellectual disabilities;
- apply the approaches to the education of pupils with intellectual disabilities.
Syllabus
  • The legislative framework for the education of children and students with special educational needs in the Czech Republic. Curricular documents. Support measures. Educational and psychological counselling services. Students with intellectual disabilities in education. Conditions for education for students with disabilities in primary schools. Individual support strategies and self-regulatory learning for students with intellectual disabilities. Specifics in teaching approaches to students with mild intellectual disabilities.

Teaching methods
Interactive seminar, practical examples, discussion.
Assessment methods
Annotation of professional publication, whose topic will concern the education of individuals with intellectual disabilities. Active participation in lectures (80 %). Written test or oral exam.
