Course objectives
The aim of the subject is to introduce students to intervention procedures, which are suitable for children with visual impairment of early and pre-school age. Students will be presented with procedures used in the diagnostics of functional vision and especially procedures used for development of visual functions, reeducation of vision, reeducation of binocular vision disorders. Additionally, recommendations for the development of sensory perception in pre-school children will be presented.
Learning outcomes
Student will be able to:
- understand different types and degrees of vision impairment and their influence on psychomotor development and on psychological processes
- to infer procedures for the development of visual functions in an early / pre-school age child depending on the degree and type of impairment
- recommend the procedures used in the reeducation of binocular vision disorders
- recommend procedures for developing sensory perception and self-service activities
Syllabus
  • Influence of severe vision impairment on psychomotor development and psychological processes.
  • Visual therapy. Functional examination of sight.
  • Development of vision and visual functions. Communication options for a child with a visual impairment.
  • Possibilities of support for visual function in an early age child with severe vision impairment.
  • Possibilities of support of visual functions in pre-school age children with severe visual impairment.
  • Possibilities of reeducation of vision in children with multiple disabilities.
  • Reeducation possibilities for binocular vision disorders. Special exercises.
  • Development of sensory perception in preschool child, support of the development of compensatory senses. Support of self-service activities and child autonomy.
