Course objectives
The aim of the course is to understand and be able to apply knowledge of the gained field (Education of individuals with combined disabilities) in practice. Furthermore, students will deepen their knowledge from the fields of education of individuals with visual, mental and physical impairment and learn how to connect them with knowledge from other fields such as psychology, sociology and medical disciplines (neurology, physiotherapy, psychiatry, ophthalmology, ENT and phoniatry).
Learning outcomes
Students will be taught to use special educational methods (diagnostics and educative) and apply supportive measures in the intervention of individuals with combined disabilities
Syllabus
  • • Therapy and therapeutic approaches (animotherapy, basal stimulation, snoezelen)
  • • Communication in individuals with severe health impairment (general characteristics, communication tools, communication support, alternative and augmentative communication)
  • • Communication in individuals with severe visual impairment (Braille alphabet – Czech set of Braille alphabet, Braille code, aids to education of Braille alphabet, teaching of Braille alphabet in children and later blinded, specifics of education in individuals with combined disability)
  • • Visual impairment as a part of combined disability – characteristics and variability of disability, etiology, syndromes, prevalence
  • • Special pedagogical diagnostics in individuals with visual impairment and combined disability (functional visual diagnostics, sensory diagnostics, psychosocial diagnostics)
  • • Provided support in children with severe disability – Lily Nielsen Active Learning
  • • Family of child with disability – parents reaction to disability, siblings of child with disability, disability as a severe life situation and its solution
  • • Individuals with ASD (Autistic spectra disorder) – characteristics, specifics in education, institutional education, counselling, complex special educational diagnostics, support.
