Prerequisites
The course is open to all students. Both: international (including Erasmus) and domestic students of all study programs backgrounds are welcome. Students are expected to have a working knowledge of English and to be willing to fully participate in the class activities. The number of participants is limited to 16. The course will be held every other week- i.e. six sessions of 180 min during the semester.

The course is offered to students of any study field.
Course objectives
Learning outcomes: (detailed and assessable outcomes TBD) At the end of the course, students will: • Demonstrate critical understanding of given texts (students will identify, analyze, and evaluate arguments as they occur in their own and others’ work, participate in critical debate, develop own arguments, demonstrate the ability of intercultural comparisons and context analysis of context, etc.) • Demonstrate intercultural sensitivity and respect to ability, language, culture, gender, age and diversity in class activities (details TBD) • Apply the various techniques of the Theatre of the Oppressed in a thorough (holistic: physical, emotional and intellectual) understanding of the social reality as well as of the mechanisms of oppression in society and use self-realization of one’s situation and rights for a potential change • Design and produce a team project of (Students will be expected to analyze current problems in education using a critical pedagogical lens. Demonstrate that they can apply theoretical knowledge and relevant interpersonal skills for constructive action.) To complete the course, students will be expected to meet rigorous academic requirements throughout the semester (home preparation will include e.g. reading assignments, activity preparation), to actively participate in class activities, and to produce a quality final team project. The course instruction will include: interactive teaching methods (e.g. group/pair work), drama techniques, but also include a site visit, and in-class international guest speaker lecture.
Syllabus
  • Overall, the course supports the development globally competent future teachers and internationally inclusive culture of the institution by engaging students as advocates of change: connecting knowledge to power and the ability to take constructive action. Together, we will gain a deeper understanding of the notion of diversity and explore the social, cultural, gender and other inequities through the perspective of Critical Pedagogy. We will think critically about our education situation and re-examine and reconstruct the institutional setting to be inclusive (non-oppressive and non-disadvantaging). We will employ the drama techniques of the Theatre of The Oppressed to develop our intercultural personal skills and our self-consciousness in order to empower us and engage ourselves in social transformation. The course aims to build up our intercultural personal skills as well as to accommodate the diverse needs of all students. We will make use of the Internationalization at Home concept for creating an interculturally welcoming teaching and learning environment.

Teaching methods
Assessment and grade will be based upon home preparation and following in-class participation (60%) and final project (40%) FINAL TEAM PROJECT (Quality Criteria TBA) HOME PREPARATION and ACTIVE PARTICIPATION: It is critically important to complete the readings in advance and to be thoughtfully prepared for each course meeting because this is a dialogue-based seminar. Open, honest, reflective, focused, sensitive inquiry is expected. This seminar works best ins ofar as it becomes a supportive learning community. Each student’s active participation is needed, and consistent, punctual, prepared and interested involvement is expected in both reading discussions and drama activities. (Assessment strategies TBA) ATTENDANCE is required at every course meeting. The professor should be notified in advance of all necessary absences due to an illness, religious holiday, or other legitimate reason. It is the student’s responsibility to consult with classmates and/or the professor about missed work.
