Course objectives
At the end of the course students will be able to: - Describe the basic characteristics of wood as a material. - Describe the basic properties of plastics. - Define advanced processing technology of wood and plastic.
Syllabus
  • 1. Forest as a source of wood-definition and function of the forest, the forest, forest cultivation, production trees and other species, historical development of the relationship of man to the wood. 2. Logging, felling process, raw strain, assortment of forest production, protection of excavated materials. 3. Science of wood (home), biological nature of the creation of wood, macroscopic structure of wood, orthogonal anisotropy wood sections, a description of our use of wood and wood production. 4. Main features of the wood, drawing, smell, density, electrical, thermal and sound conductivity, hardness. 5. Physical properties of wood, water movement in wood, wood moisture content determination, the consequences of changes in humidity, swelling, methods of storage and drying of wood. 6. Mechanical properties of wood-flexibility, strength, hardness, toughness 7. Technological properties of wood - workability, ability to hold mechanical fasteners, receiving treatment and coating materials. 8. Durability of wood and means to enhance the durability, impregnation, and coatings. 9. Defects of wood and their effect on the applicability of wood. 10. Introduction to the mechanical technology of wood, cutting, machining theory tools. 11. Sawing production, the vertical frame saw, manufacture of veneer sheets, timber and agglomerated materials, large-scale materials. 12. Description of the production tree-important characteristics and uses. 13. Nature and distribution of plastics, natural and synthetic macromolecular compounds, thermoplastics and reactoplastics. 14. General properties of plastics, favorable and unfavorable characteristics of plastics. 15. Basic information about some plastics. 16. Basic information about some plastics - thermoplastics. 17. Getting to know plastic. 18. Industrial production of semi-finished plastic. 19. Industrial production of current products of plastics. 20. Laminated materials, laminates and cellular plastics. 21. Adhesives, advantages and disadvantages of bonding, bonding requirements. 22. Sticking traditional materials and plastics, thermoplastics bonding. 23. Paints.
