Course objectives
Students get acquainted with basic definitions and terminology and acquire knowledge about the main currents of development in art theory.
Learning outcomes
The student acquires knowledge about the essence of the field, knows the basic terminology, personalities, methodological concepts and developmental stages of art theory.

  • • Theory of art as a part of theoretical thinking of ancient antiquity • Marabilia, ekfrasis, travelogues and the beginnings of descriptions and interpretations of works of art • Recipes and descriptions of technologies in the Renaissance and Enlightenment • Lives of celebrities - biographical concept of theory • The birth of art theory in the 19th century - Vienna School • Erwin Panofsky and Ernst Gombrich • Postmodernism and its representatives
