Prerequisites
The objective of the course is to introduce various aspects of crises in human life and crisis management in the context of health psychology.

Course objectives
Upon completion of the course the students will:
- Be able to understand various psychological contexts of an individual’s mental crisis,
- Be able to explain the dynamics of a crisis and various types of crises according to various criteria,
- Know the basic principles of general crisis intervention and know the boundaries of general crisis intervention.

  • Content of seminars:
  • 1. Crisis and its position in the life of an individual;
  • 2. Types of crises according to various criteria I (transitory and traumatic crises);
  • 3. Types of crises according to various criteria II (acute and chronic crises);
  • 4. Types of crises according to various criteria III (apparent and latent crises);
  • 5. Types of crises according to various criteria III (individual and community crises);
  • 6. Course of a crisis (specific dynamics);
  • 7. Acute reaction to a crisis and posttraumatic stress disorder;
  • 8. Crises in various contexts I (crisis and addiction);
  • 9. Crises in various contexts II (crises and intellectual disorders);
  • 10. Crisis management, coping strategies;
  • 11. Possibilities and boundaries of general crisis intervention I;
  • 12. Possibilities and boundaries of general crisis intervention II; (in a school environment).

Assessment methods
A prerequisite for the completion of the course is submission of a seminar assignment in an electronic form or its presentation. Detailed instructions for students are contained in the study documents. The seminar assignment shall be worked on continuously throughout the whole term.
