Course objectives
The student should master both theoretical and practical knowledge in the seminars basics of music theory and harmony as a starting point for practical musical disciplines. The student should familiarize himself with an overview of the history of music.
Learning outcomes
The student knows scales, important intervals, frequently used chords, Italian musical termiínology, and has a basic overview of the history of music. The student can write the cadence. The student is introduced to an overview of the history of music.
Syllabus
  • Attributes of tone, musical notation - signs, notation, keys, signs and marks relating to tone characteristics. Major and minor scales. Basic intervals, basic and derived seconds and thirds. Major and minor fifth-chords, dominant seventh chord, chord turns. Cadence, chord functions, guitar marks. History of music - a brief description of stylistic periods with examples of important compositions. Completion: written test: orientation in major and minor scales - notation, construction of selected basic and derived upper intervals, the construction of major and minor fifth chords and their turns and the dominant seventh chord and its turns according to guitar and function marks, construction of cadences in major and minor keys, Italian terminology of tempo, expression, dynamics and agogics. Basic knowledge of the periodization of music history and selected compositions.

Assessment methods
Lecture. Credit for successfully writen test of following content: written test: orientation in major and minor scales - notation, construction of selected basic and derived upper intervals, the construction of major and minor fifth chords and their turns and the dominant seventh chord and its turns according to guitar and function marks, construction of cadences in major and minor keys, Italian terminology of tempo, expression, dynamics and agogics. Basic information about the development of music and selected compositions. The test contains approx. 55 point-evaluated steps, at least 30 points must be achieved for successful completion.
