- Course objectives
- The objective of the course is to develop students' elementary skills in playing the piano. Student will be able to make overtures and finales of folk and artificial songs equipped with chord symbols, to interpret small piano compositions suitable for listening and music-movement activities in the kindergarten. Creation of system of skills and habits in singing technique. Methodical basis for pedagogical work with child and adult voice. Study materials - czech folk songs, child songs, czech and world nonartificial and artificial music. At the end of this course student should be able to play the piano and sing vocal technique exercises simultaneously and must be able to apply theoretical and practical knowledge in singing technique to his repertoire.
- Learning outcomes
- Upon completion of the course the student will be able to: • - create a simple accompaniment to folk songs and artists with accordic marks; • - play major cadence with D7 modulation; • - to interpret a simple compositional composition. At the end of this course student should be able to play the piano and sing vocal technique exercises simultaneously; must be able to apply theoretical and practical knowledge in singing technique to his repertoire.
- Syllabus
- Major scales: C, G, D, A, E, F, Bb, Eb in equal- or counter-movement in the range of two octaves. • Chords: the major triads in the range of one octave - tenuto, staccato, spread chords. • Cadences in major chromatic transpositions. • Basic types of stylization piano accompaniment. • Playing 25 folk songs with the overture and singing. • Interpretation of the piano pieces from the elementary literature. Introduction. Choosing literature to study. Singing posture. Setting the correct posture. Types of breathing. Breathing exercises. Practice of the costal-diaphragm breathing. Voice onsets. Practice of the soft voice onset. Breathing, articulatory and vocal exercises for improving singing technique of adults. Work with registers. Stabilization and extending the vocal range. Practising the voice technique by singing folk songs. Work with children’s song literature. Information about hygiene of speaking and singing voice of children. Practising repertoire – folk songs, musicals, artificial songs etc. Information about hygiene of the speaking and singing voice of adults.

- Assessment methods
- Type of teaching: exercises. Completion: credit. Practical completion - requirements: major scales and chords: C, G, D, A, E, F, Bb, Eb. Cadences in major chromatic transpositions, modulations through seventh-chord (D7). Playing 25 folk songs in basic stylization with overture and singing. Secondary harmonic functions - II. and VI. degree in the key of C and D major. Music transposition from C to D major, songs in the key of D major to E and F major. Interpretation of one piano piece from the elementary literature. The obligation to attend classes. 100% attendance. Type: Exercises Credit: Transposition of various types of voice exercises with own piano accompaniment in diatonic and chromatic scale. Practical vocal presentation of 20 compulsory songs with own piano accompaniment. Basic knowledge of the voice hygiene. 80% attendance is necessary for giving course-unit credit.
