Course outline: This is the first stage of a six term course of practical language intended to meet the needs of the future primary school teachers. The students' expected level is A2 according to the levels of the global scale of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, i. e. A2: Can understand sentences and frequently used expressions related to areas of most immediate relevance (e.g. very basic personal and family information, shopping, local geography, employment). Can communicate in simple and routine tasks requiring a simple and direct exchange of information on familiar and routine matters. Can describe in simple terms aspects of his/her background, immediate environment and matters in areas of immediate basic need. The whole course is designed to lead the students from A2 through B1 to B2 with 5 units a term based freely on the recommended textbooks.

Course objectives
The main objective of this course is to focus on particular grammar points, enhance vocabulary and language skills: speaking, writing, reading and listening. Authentic materials will be used and presented throghout the course and due to the additional materials students awareness of diverse cultures will be raised. Students become competent language users and will be able to use the langugage in everyday situations.

  • 1st lesson: Placement test
  • 2nd lesson: Unit 5A,5B Parties. Gerund and infinitiv.
  • 3rd lesson: Unit 5C,5D Learning foreign languages.Sports.Obligation. Prepositions
  • 4th lesson: Practical English, Revise and Check, test
  • 5th lesson: Unit 6A, 6B Conditional sentences. Animals.
  • 6th lesson: Unit 6C, 6D Making decisions. Possibility. Giving advice.
  • 7th lesson: Practical English, Revise and Check, test
  • Exam period: Credit test - oral

Assessment methods
Requirements: Students have to pass 2 short tests focused on vocabulary and grammar (70%) during the term, submit their teaching practice papers and only then can they sit the final exam proving their overall grammar and vocabulary knowledge (70%) at the end of the term. Students have to prepare for lessons throughout the whole term and do homework for each lesson, which is the base for their active participation in the seminars. Most of the work is based on students' self-study.
