Course objectives
The course objective is to introduce the literary and theoretical basics needed for students´own interpretation and analysis of literature for children and young adults as well as for their further studies of literary history. Students will be able to interpret a literary text independently. They will also be able to apply the terminology of literary science.
Syllabus
  • 1. Literature of the branch. 2. Classification of literature and literary science, basic terminology of literary science. 3. Literature and other written products, national and world literature. 4. Structure of a literary work, models of composition, characters, narrator. 5. Author and recipient of a literary work and their relation. 6. Introduction to the theory of verse. 7. Prosodic systems, rhythm and rhyme. 8. Linguistic means of a literary work I. 9. Linguistic means of a literary work II. 10. Literary types and genres. 11. Specifics of young adult literature. 12. Genre composition of young adult literature.

Type of course: consultations.
Assessment methods
Credit requirements: students write a test which focuses on the basic terminology of literary science and interpretative analyses of selected poetic and fictional texts of the literature for children and young adults. Questions are open. The student will receive 10 partial marks, the average of which can not exceed 2.9 (mark E).
