Course objectives
The course focuses on basic areas of English pronunciation - transcription, sounds, weak forms and linking.
Syllabus
  • The course is based on The Workbook of English Pronunciation for Teachers I by Gabriela Oaklandová. There are ten chapters in this textbook. 1st, 6th and the last lesson - one-to-one consultations. 1. introduction 2. recording/1st CONSULTATION 3. Chapter 1: Bert read by an Englishman (typical difficulties for Czech learners of English), Phonemic Chart and Transcription, Laura and Dolly by Michael Rosen 4. Chapter 2: Round and Round the Garden, Laura and Dolly, Terminology, Battleships 5. Chapter 3: computer dictation puzzle, weak forms, schwa, Under the Bridge, Laura and Dolly 6. Assessment methods
Requirements: Oral and written credit. Homework throughout the semester. Active participation in the lessons. Attendance of at least 80%. Creative IPA project. Creating a pronunciation based lesson plan.
Methods: homework, class discussions, individual projects, drills.
