Course Enrolment Limitations
The course is offered to students of any study field.
Course objectives
The aim of the course is to provide foreign students with basic knowledge of Czech schools. Students can gain experience from lessons in all subjects of the curriculum of primary education. They systematically analyse lessons which they observe. During teaching practice they also prepare, implement and reflect on their own teaching with pupils (usually aimed at familiarization with facts about the country they come from). Sub-objectives formulated in the outcomes of students: By the end of the course the student will: • Describe the Czech educational system; • have an overview of the curriculum of basic education, • implement and reflect on their own teaching with students, • reflect on the process of teaching in written form, • perform assigned tasks.
Syllabus
  • 1. Introduction to the educational system in the Czech Republic. 2. Learning about the national and school curriculum for basic education. 3. Introduction to life in the classroom, teachers, schools (rules, norms, customs, rituals). 4. Introduction to basic educational documentation (class records, class register, data sheets, school reports, etc.). 5. Communication between teacher and student (how teacher communicates verbally and non-verbally, how to use rewards and punishments to resolve conflicts, etc..). 6. Creating a professional student portfolio: knowledge, discoveries, records of sitting in on classes, observations from teaching practice and other documentation. 7. Written comparison of Czech primary schools with the same level of education in the country of the student.

Teaching methods
Linking theoretical and practical training – teaching observations, analyses, work as a teaching assistant, own teaching.
Assessment methods
The criteria for granting the credit: a) 80% attendance, b) completion of assigned tasks: • Submission of a student portfolio (records from sitting in on classes, records of interviews and observations of the student in the school environment, preparation of the student for their own teaching, class and school records ...) c) presentation of a comparison of Czech primary schools and schools in the student’s home country
