Course objectives
At the end of this course the student will be able to: 1. Describe the basic parameters of the geological structure of the Earth. 2. Know the basic groups of geological processes. 3. Identify the main groups of rocks. 4. Work with a geological map and make a geographic description of the territory. 5. Have a general overview on basic classification of geological sciences. 6. Know the basic groups of genetic terrain forming processes. 7. Define the hierarchical system of territorial geomorphological objects and processes of their formation. 8. Know the types of Earth surface and describe examples of them using by their characteristic froms. 9. Know the basic sciences division geomorphological sciences. 10. Perform a relief analysis of the topographic map and determine the slopes of the chosen slope, the orientation towards the world sides and the height above the valley.
Learning outcomes
The student is able to work with basic geological and geomorphological literature. He/she knows well the meaning of professional terms. He/she can compose expert text on these topics. He knows map and data sources. He/she is able to derive geographic data from a topographic map relief. He/she understands their reliability and knows the areas of exploitation of geological geomorphological information in practice in the area.

Study Materials
The course is taught annually.
Teacher's information
In the seminars, these assignments will be assigned based on work with a geological and topographic map that students will purchase or download from the Internet for their living neighborhood: 1. Geological environment of the place of residence (Source of the map: www.geology.cz). A student from a nationwide geological map of the scale of 1:50 000 builds for a square cutout 7.5 x 7.5 km a standardly arranged legend (from the youngest to the oldest rock) in the number of items and colors as in the cut and the cutout is provided with cartographic elements (name, scale, legend, orientation, authorship). Together they place them on A4 format. Geographical description of the geological environment is comprised of approx. 1x A4 (line 1, fonts 12, Roman Times). In the introductory part, it will locate the area of interest according to administrative, geological and orographic units. In its own description, it deals with the occurrence of rocks so that the relationship between their location and the relief is obvious. It uses a topographic map of the same scale. In the end, he will outline the relationship between the rocks and the economy of the area of interest. 2. The slope of relief around the place of residence. 3. Orientation of slopes around the place of residence. 4. Relative height above the bottom of the valley surrounding the place of residence The work on Tasks 2, 3 and 4 is shown in scripts KOLEJKA, J. (2014): Landscape Doctoral Studies for Studying Geography of Masters Teachers. Brno, Masaryk University, 129 pp. ISBN 978-80-210-6659-5. Elaborates must be submitted within 14 days from the date of assignment.
The course is also listed under the following terms Autumn 2017, Autumn 2019, autumn 2020, Autumn 2021, Autumn 2022, Autumn 2023, Autumn 2024.
