Course objectives
The main aim of the subject is to deepen and systematize students’ insight into theory and research of teacher’s profession with the focus on specifics of geography teaching. The subject is to be enrolled especially by students, whose doctoral thesis concerns education of geography teachers and teaching profession; it leads them to comprehension of broader pedeutological context of their doctoral thesis topic.

  • Pedeutology as theory of teaching profession; teaching profession conception in a diachronic perspective; teacher’s professionalization.
  • Teacher’s professional competences; knowledge basis of teaching; pedagogical content knowledge.
  • Teacher’s professional skills; teacher’s professional thinking; teacher’s conception of teaching; quality concept in teacher’s profession.
  • Teacher’s professional development and support; teacher’s training: main conceptions abroad, situation in the Czech Republic.
  • Personal dimension in teacher’s education.
  • Other teacher’s training.
  • Teacher and his/her training as a subject of pedagogical research; foreign and local research trends.

discussion, students’ individual work resulting in a research project
Assessment methods
To critically evaluate at least two foreign studies thematically relevant to the area of teacher’s profession theory or research (e.g. from Teaching and Teacher Education journal, Journal für Lehrerinnen- und Lehrerbildung, etc.). To defence at least partially realized project of pedeutological research (e.g. as a basis for the doctoral thesis). A credit is gained after meeting the requirements.
