Course objectives
Branch deals with the macro relationship to the environment, examining their interactions and importance for human health. It is a synthesis of understanding the unity of the organism in health and disease.
Learning outcomes
After completing the course, the student will be familiar with the basics of hygiene (with a focus on hygiene of children and adolescents), preventive medicine (focusing on non-infectious diseases of mass occurrence), and epidemiology at work in a healthcare facility.
Syllabus
  • 01. Concepts of epidemiology, hygiene and preventive medicine:
  • - Hygiene and epidemiology, definitions, history;
  • - basic terminology;
  • - the relationship between the environment and human health.
  • 02. Influence of selected environmental factors on health:
  • - burden, environmental factors;
  • - air;
  • - water.
  • 03. Nutrition and its impact on health - proteins, fats, cholesterol, margarines, carbohydrates, fiber, energy value of food, recommended nutritional doses, alcohol, foreign substances.
  • 04. Work and health:
  • - risk analysis at work;
  • - workplace, work place, work activity;
  • - categorization of works;
  • - principles of prevention;
  • - workload burdens.
  • 05. Basics of hygiene of children and adolescents:
  • - growth and development of children;
  • - the risk of harm to the health of the child;
  • - prevention of child injuries, violence against children;
  • - addiction issues in adolescents, behavioral disorders, sexually transmitted diseases.
  • 06. Principles of hygiene of operation of individual types of workplaces, hand hygiene, anti-epidemic regime.
  • 07. Physical activity as a basic factor of lifestyle:
  • - supporting physical activity (global, European and national strategies);
  • - importance of optimal physical activity for prevention of non-infectious diseases;
  • - possibilities of evaluation of physical activity.
  • 08. Prevention of non-infectious diseases of mass incidence:
  • - obesity, epidemiology, prevention, treatment;
  • - cardiovascular disease, risk factors, prevention;
  • - oncological diseases and their primary prevention.
  • 09. Epidemiology of infectious diseases:
  • - the process of spreading the disease;
  • - epidemiological measures;
  • - nosocomial infections;
  • - disinfection and sterilization.
  • 10. Epidemiology of cardiovascular diseases
