Course objectives
The main aim of the subject is to introduce the students to the field of physiotherapy and its implementation to preventative care and specific therapy. It is focused on basic terms and structure of physiotherapy, basic particular approaches to physiotehrapy and basic physiotherapy techniques.
Learning outcomes
Students will be able to:
- identify and summarize important features of the physiotherapy field and explain its importance in prevention and specific therapy;
- identify and describe current domestic and foreign trends in physiotherapy;
- practically apply rehabilitation nursing procedures and basic therapeutic techniques; - describe the basic division of physiotherapy;
- orientate between basic concepts and rehabilitation approaches and basic therapeutic techniques.
Syllabus
  • Lecture:
  • 01. Introduction to Rehabilitation:
  • Definition, history, education, qualifications and competences in the field, means of physiotherapy;
  • - organization of rehabilitation and physiotherapeutic care, competences of individual team members;
  • - definition of quality in healthcare, healthcare standards;
  • - quality management of healthcare provided and patient safety, quality management models and their relationships;
  • - professional competences and training opportunities for physiotherapists;
  • - the role of medical history in rehabilitation;
  • - establishing a short and long term plan;
  • - indications and contraindications to physiotherapy in general.
  • 02. Kinesiotherapy I:
  • - passive and active therapy;
  • - positioning;
  • - a vertical-locomotion plan.
  • 03. Kinesiotherapy II:
  • - fitness therapy,
  • - fundamentals of pulmonary rehabilitation and respiratory physiotherapy.
  • 04. Rehabilitation treatment
  • 05. Physiotherapy in preventive care, in acute care, in chronic diseases.
  • 06. International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF). Principles of physiotherapist work based on "evidence-based medicine" (EBM).
  • Exercises:
  • 01. Physiotherapist approach to patient, medical history.
  • 02. Motor learning - types of motor learning and their use in patient education. Individual and group therapy.
  • 03. Patient mobilization - passive movement (use of passive kinesiotherapy in   rehabilitation)
  • 04. Patient mobilization:
  • - assisted movement (use of kinesiotherapy with assistance in rehabilitation);
  • - active movement (use of active kinesiotherapy in rehabilitation);
  • - fitness therapy;
  • - individual and group therapy.
  • 05. Rehabilitation nursing - positioning (indications, principles, goals and ways of positioning)
  • 06. Verticalization-locomotion plan
  • 07. Introduction to pulmonary rehabilitation - basics and techniques of respiratory physiotherapy
  • 08. Analytical methods of kinesiotherapy for muscle imbalance compensation - muscle relaxation, stretching.
  • 09. Analytical methods of kinesiotherapy for compensation of muscle imbalances - muscle facilitation, strengthening.
