Course objectives
The main goal of this subject is to provide basic knowledge in Physical therapy and its usage in prevention, examination and therapy of musculoskeletal and nervous system influencing all parts of human existence as a part of comprehensive rehabilitation. It´s important to meet a student with general principles of individual physical therapy parts, physiological or patophysiological organism response on their application and with mechanotherapy a their possibilities. The main goal of the practical part is to provide practical skills in mechanotherapy especially focused on practice in classical massage. First it´s important arts superficial and deep palpation. On the other hand it´s important a practical differentiation of each soft tissue level and its examination.
Learning outcomes
After completing the course the student is able to:
01. to practice selected massage strokes
02. to discuss about the selection of selected massage strokes
03. to assess the current state of the locomotive system
04. to choose the right massage strokes in relation to the aim of the massage
05. to practice a sports massage before, in a break of unfinished performance and after the completion of the physical activity
06. to evaluate the athlete's status based on the subjective feeling before and after the application of the selected type of sports massage
Syllabus
  • Lectures:
  • 01. History and parts of Physical therapy. Terms.
  • 02. General and Special contraindications. General rules for Physical therapy applicaton including security and prescription "lege artis".
  • 03. Physical therapy effects: Analgesic effect, dispersive effect, muscle-relaxant effect, effect supporting muscle contraction and Anti-edema effect.
  • 04. General indications including effect and level of disorder.
  • 05. Direct and indirect effects.
  • 06. Introduction to mechanotherapy.
  • 07. Theoretical basic of classical massage: group touches and position among other types of massage
  • 08. Theoretical basic of sports massage.
  • 09. Reflexology.
  • 10. Other types of massage.
  • 11. Other types of mechanotherapy.
  • 12. Ultrasound therapy.
  • 13. Shock wave therapy.
  • Practical course:
  • 01. Work ergonomics. Basic groups of touches.
  • 02. Massage of lower limbs - posterior part (positioning, individual touches, passive stretching).
  • 03. Massage of lower limbs - anterior part (positioning, individual touches, passive stretching).
  • 04. Back massage including scapula area (positioning, individual touches, passive stretching).
  • 05. Neck massage including scapula area and shoulder girdle massage(positioning, individual touches, passive stretching).
  • 06. Head massage. Chest massage. Positioning, individual touches, passive stretching.
  • 07. Massage of upper limbs. Abdominal massage. Positioning, individual touches, passive stretching.
  • 08. Full body massage.
  • 09. Preparatory sports massage and therapeutic massage after sport - specifics of individual one.
  • 10. Stand massage. Massage between performances. Use in practice.
  • 11. Regenerative massage.
  • 12. Samples of other massage types and some techniques (hot stones, shietsu etc.).

Practical course: focused on the right application of classical massage with correction of qualified physiotherapist or other practitioner.
