Prerequisites
Based on the study of literature and information obtained in the theoretical and practical teaching, students will write an essay on an assigned topic. The content of the essay will be the characteristics of a chosen period of old age in terms of involutional processes. Based on these characteristics they should suggest appropriate diagnostic methods, physical intervention and a method of evaluation its effectiveness. Students will be required to implement their methodology in practical seminars that will be subjected to expert analysis. Oral examination.

Course objectives
Students acquire the necessary information about aging issues from the biological, psychological and sociological perspectives. Emphasis will be placed on primary prevention of involutional processes when aging and possible physical intervention in terms of improved quality of life (in the physical, psychological and social areas). They will gain expertise in the field of diagnostics and optimization of physical stress on the basis of which they will be able to prepare and implement appropriate training programmes for different groups of seniors.
Syllabus
  • Lectures: • Social and demographic perspective on the issue of aging. • Old age and the aging process from the biological, physical, psychological and social point of view. • Analysis of involutional processes when aging. • Appropriate selection and application of diagnostic methods in assessing the level of indicators of the quality of life of seniors, their functional competences and psychosocial factors. • The didactic fundamentals and principles in the development and implementation of intervention movement programmes with regard to age and level of involutional processes and also interest. • Indoor physical activities and their indications and contraindications. • Outdoor physical activities and their indications and contraindications. • Methods of data processing and drawing the necessary conclusions for science and research. • Method of evaluating the effectiveness of exercise intervention. • Participation in an intervention programme in a facility for the elderly. • Analysis of intervention programme (in the facility for the elderly). In seminars, students will gain practical skills and demonstrate the ability to prepare and present an intervention programme for a specific group of seniors in terms of the development of the necessary indicators (physical, psychological and social).

Teaching methods
Lectures, practics exercises, participation on the intervention programmes in the facility of the elderly, class discussion.
Assessment methods
• 90 % of active paticipation on seminars as a practice exercisees • Write an essay on an assigned topic (5 - 10 pages) • Presentation of an intervention programme for a specific group of seniors. The presentation will be evaluated on a scale A - F • In the form of an oral exam to assess the acquired knowledge on the scale AF
