Course objectives
The student will acquire knowledge and skills for data analysis with a focus on the study of relationships between factors of living conditions and health. The student will be able to interpret the results of the professional studies correctly and correctly and use them in the preparation of interventional preventive programs.
Learning outcomes
The graduate will be able to:
1. Propose intervention measures in primary, secondary and tertiary prevention.
2. Implement and evaluate the effectiveness of intervention in health promotion programs.
3. Apply acquired knowledge and skills in basic and applied research on prevention.
4. Create basic design and management of the educational component of intervention in the area of health promotion.
Syllabus
  • Lectures
  • Epidemiological studies (types, meanings, uses).
  • Main factors influencing the state of health of the population and the possibility of action on it (specific and non-specific interventions).
  • Evaluation of children's population development. External and internal factors affecting the physical and mental development of the child.
  • Development of population health status. The main health problems of today.
  • Care system in the Czech Republic. Links between health and social care.
  • Methods and main characteristics used to measure and evaluate population health.
  • Indicators of disease, mortality in the population (their use for the preparation of preventive programs).
  • Health policy.
  • Effects of the environment and the working environment on health (physical, chemical factors).
  • Characteristics and types of preventive care. Examples of preventive programs for various groups of diseases.
  • Specific areas of prevention (prevention of aging).
  • Seminars
  • Epidemiological methods of work. Types of epidemiological studies. Incidence. Prevalence. Mortality.
  • Search for risk factors influencing population health (problem definition, factors influencing detection and intervention, individual steps in disease intervention).
  • Prevention of type 2 diabetes mellitus.
  • Prevention of ischemic heart disease.
  • Prevention of hypertension.
  • Prevention of vascular events.
  • Prevention of osteoporosis.
  • Control of cancer risks.
  • Prevention of pain in the back.

Teaching methods
Theoretical preparation and practical exercises.
Assessment methods
Learning outcomes of the course unit is compulsory. During the seminar the student has to fulfill:
- 2 continuous written tests. Written tests will include 10 questions rated 20 points. To achieve successful mastery, you need to achieve at least 14 points.
- to create a project - for intervention measures in primary, secondary and tertiary prevention of a selected civilization disease
- oral exam rated on the A-F scale.
