Course objectives
The educational goals of the subject "Jazz dance and musical" are focused on providing students with a comprehensive introduction to the field of jazz dance and musical. This subject focuses on the development of technical skills, aesthetic perception and artistic expression in a specific dance style and music genre. The main educational goals are: Mastering the basic techniques of jazz dance - the student gets to know the basic technique of jazz dance and choreographic elements characteristic of jazz dance and musicals. The aim is to develop coordination, flexibility, strength and rhythmic sensitivity. No input value of knowledge and skills is required. Development of Artistic Expression: The aim is to provide students with the skills and tools for creative self-expression through jazz dance and more specifically the musical genre. After completing the course, students will be able to interpret music and transfer emotions and stories into their dance performance. Collaboration and Teamwork: The course supports students' ability to work together as part of a dance group or musical ensemble. Students will collaborate on simple choreographies. Self-confidence and self-awareness: The subject supports the development of self-confidence and self-awareness of students, who gain confidence in their dancing abilities and in the field of artistic expression.
Learning outcomes
Technical skills: Students will be able to perform simple dance and movement elements characteristic of jazz dance and musicals. Artistic expression: Students will be able to interpret music and emotions through jazz dance and musical dance. They will be able to convey story and emotion in their dance performances and show their personal creativity and artistic vision. They will be able to communicate with the audience and express themselves in an artistically engaging way.
Syllabus
  • Week 1-2: Introduction to jazz dance and musicals - introduction to basic movement stereotypes, positions and isolations, analysis of simple musical elements, practice choreography Week 3-4: Basics of dance technique - deepening of positions, isolations and dance procedures characteristic of jazz dance, additional practice choreography Week 5-6: Dance Choreography I: Rehearsal and interpretation of the first dance choreography in jazz dance and musicals requiring the involvement of multiple groups of dancers Week 7-8: Dance Choreography II: Rehearsal and interpretation of second dance choreography in jazz dance and musicals. Week 9-10: Music interpretation: Work with musical phases and dynamics for better interpretation of music in dance. Week 11-12: Improvisation and creative development: Supporting individual creativity and the ability to improvise within jazz dance and musicals.
Teaching methods
Practical dance lessons: Students will be actively involved in practical exercises and dance lessons, where they will learn specific dance techniques, movement elements, and choreography characteristics of jazz dance and musicals. Improvisation and Creative Development: Students will be encouraged to improvise and develop creatively within their dance performance to encourage the development of personal artistic style and expression. Interdisciplinary collaboration: Teaching will encourage collaboration between dance and music students, contributing to a comprehensive understanding of the mutual influences of jazz dance and the musical.
