Course objectives
The aim of the course is to teach students to evaluate the potential of tourism development in the territory. Students will gain an overview of the basic prerequisites for the development of tourism and the mutual links between individual elements of tourism supply.
Learning outcomes
At the end of the course students should be able to:
explain the purpose of tourism quantification analysis;
evaluate the natural and cultural-historical potential of the territory for the development of tourism;
analyze basic and accompanying tourism infrastructure;
characterize functionally-spatial organization of tourism in the area;
create functional typology of the tourist centres;
analyze the attendance of the territory;
compare the overall attractiveness of selected territorial-administrative units.
Syllabus
  • I. Evaluation of primary potential and precondition of tourism
  • - The natural potential of tourism (evaluation of potential recreational areas, large-scale protected areas, specific natural attractions, functional-spatial types of “recreational” landscape)
  • - The cultural and historical potential of tourism (evaluation based on the presence of UNESCO monuments, national cultural monuments, city and village reserves, attendance of castles and chateaux, etc.)
  • II. Evaluation of secondary potential and precondition of tourism
  • - Accommodation infrastructure and attendance
  • - Sport and recreational infrastructure
  • - Other accompanying tourist infrastructure, incl. evaluation of transport accessibility
  • III. Functional-spatial organization of tourism
  • - Functional typology of centres
  • - Line infrastructure
  • - Areas of tourism

Assessment methods
The written exam is required (reaching 60% of the total score is the condition for the successful finishing of the subject). Part of the evaluation is the individual project on a given topic. The written exam is 40% and the individual project is 60% of the grade.
