Course objectives
Monetary Economics (DSMO) The course develops knowledge gained in the course of Macroeconomics, aiming at its further deepening and understanding of the monetary aspect. The initial section is devoted to the historical development of money. Then the function and structure of the financial market, measurement and behaviour of interest rates are explained. The focus of the course is the theory of money demand and central banking, with emphasis on the creation and regulation of the money supply. Creation of balance in the IS-LM model is explained. The final topics cover the theory of exchange rates, their application in central bank's policy, as well as issues connected with balance of payments. Examination: written and oral.
