Course objectives

The course is a following-up course of Management I. Studies should lead to the development of system-style thinking, creating the conditions for the perception of broad context, a deeper understanding of feedback processes, relationships between parts and whole, statics and dynamics, etc. It should also lead to the acquisition of knowledge and both theoretical as well as factual character.
At the end of this course, students should be able to:
- explain the long-term trends of economic and social environment of business
- explain trends of enterprises and their management at the threshold of the third wave of civilization
- analyze the phenomena typical of the current practice of corporate management.

  • I. Theoretical and methodical backround. Development trends in economical and social environment.

  • 1. Management theory as the science about management in technical, biological and social systems.
  • 2. System development - natural and cultural evolution.
  • 3. Characteristics of development and management of social systems.
  • 4. Characteristics and fundamentals of industrial era.
  • 5. Development trends in the post industrial era.
  • II. Development trends of companies and management.
  • 6. Changes in work and development of companies.
  • 7. From hierarchy to the nets.
  • 8. Highly evaluated company.
  • 9. Stakeholders approach in company.
  • III. Approaches and methods of current management and its cultural and ethical aspects.
  • 10. Selected approaches and methods of current management.

Assessment methods
The first tutorial is held in the form of lecture. Tutor is presenting selected thematic spheres. The students themselves study the other spheres in study hours. Other two tutorials proceed as seminars. Teams of three students are presenting partial topics within particular seminar. Each team works out one presentation per course. The scope of presentation is approximately 20 minutes (includes 10 minutes for presentation itself, 10 minutes for discussion). Participation in seminars is obligatory.
Students have to pass an oral examination to finish the course. Necessary condition to sit the examination is presentation and handover of the seminar paper. Seminar paper classification is a part of the examination.
