Course objectives
The course provides the students with the understanding of the organizational behavior and the behavior of individuals inside organizations necessary for efficient organization management and development. The course is of an interdisciplinary character as it incorporates the findings of psychology, sociology and management on a practical level and it explains the organizational behavior and the behavior of individuals inside from a wider perspective of organizational behavior efficiency.
Learning outcomes
At the end of the course students should be able to understand the main patterns of the behavior of organizations and of the individuals inside and:
- predict the tendencies in the organizational behavior and the behavior of individuals inside;
- make reasoned decisions concerning the management of organizations and the individuals inside;
- select measures and tools purposefully to influence individuals, groups and organizations as a whole to enhance their efficiency.
Syllabus
  • The lessons take the form of three workshops in which both lectures and tutorials are combined.

  • BLOCK 1
  • Introduction:
  • Organizational behavior and benefits of its study. Organization, organizational behavior – term definition. An interdisciplinary approach to their studies and to understanding organizations.
  • Individuals in organizations:
  • Personality determinants of performance and individual behavior inside organizations, individual differences.
  • Career in the organization. Career - term definition, career types, career cycles. Career planning and management.
  • Work motivation and job satisfaction.
  • Work roles, role conflicts, role overload.
  • BLOCK 2
  • Groups in organizations and their management:
  • Formal and informal groups. Group roles, group structure. Group processes and behavior.
  • Team work. Team types, characteristics of team work. Team roles. Selection of team members, team development.
  • Leadership style, leadership styles typology, leadership style choice with respect to the characteristics of the organization and the work groups.
  • Organizational conflicts, sources of conflicts, conflict management.
  • Works stress and well-being.
  • BLOCK 3
  • Organizational development and change.
  • Organizational culture. Term definition, organizational culture elements, organizational culture structure. The content and the power of organizational culture, organizational subcultures. Influence of organizational culture on organizational behavior and efficiency.
  • Organizational change.
  • The desired organizational culture development. The desired organizational culture content formulation, tools for desired organizational culture building.

Teaching methods
Lectures, class discussions, model situations, case studies, homework.
Assessment methods
The final examination is written, 60% of correct answers is needed to pass. The condition for being allowed to take the final test is successful completion of seminar paper on the assigned topic.
