Course objectives
The course is designed to give students the experience of using basic and advanced methods of programming in MATLAB. MATLAB is a universal and powerful tool used for modelling dynamic systems, computationally demanding tasks, optimisation and simulations, visualisation and analysing of data. These tools are universal and easily implemented in the fields of economics, finance and other technical, natural and social sciences. By the end of the course, students should be well prepared for working with many features of MATLAB. That includes the knowledge of manipulating vectors and matrices, programming functions and writing scripts (also making use of loop and selection statements), text manipulation, working with various data structures, visualizing data and using selected MATLAB toolboxes, etc.
Learning outcomes
The course is designed to provide the students with a working knowledge of both basic and advanced methods of programming in MATLAB so that:
• they can propose an appropriate algorithm to solve the assigned problem, design the particular steps, and implement them within the MATLAB framework;
• they are able to visualise and analyse real data;
• they understand basic and advanced programming techniques, including the errors diagnostics;
• they are able to work with various data structures.
