Course objectives
The goal of the course is to acquaint students with fundamental concepts and notions in knowledge management and to show their application to organizational a managerial practice.
Learning outcomes
Student will be able to:
- reproduce the main issues in the area of knowledge management;
- briefly describe meaning of basic concepts from the area of knowledge management;
- describe selected problems of knowledge management;
- describe these problems in practical examples;
- describe and compare selected solutions to these problems.
Syllabus
  • 1. session (2x2h): Kick-off: Organization as a knowledge system: Introduction into the problem area (theoretical input and group game); content, aims, organization of the course, assignment of topics
  • 2. session (2x2h): Prep Stage 1: Configuration, contingencies and life-cycles of organizations: Theoretical input, short test, presentations, discussions
  • 3. session (2x2h): L&D1 Stage: Epistemic processes underlying organizational effectiveness (organizational epistemology): Theoretical input, short test, presentations, discussions
  • 4. session (2x2h): L&D2 Stage: Relational presuppositions for organisational learning and knowledge management: knowledge, knowledge management, aspects of knowledge management: Theoretical input, short test, presentations, discussions

Assessment methods
All students responsibility is to read all mandatory readings. This will be examined through a short test at the beginning of sessions 2, 3, 4, 5, 6. Students which do not pass the minimum requirement (at least 13 point out of 25 in tests) will have to do a long exam in Session 6. Others do not have to show up in Session 7. Thematic work (student presentation of an assigned topic), active in-class work. Attendance is compulsory. Any copying, keeping a record of tests or carrying the tests out, using forbidden aids including any communication devices or any other breach of objectivity of the exam is regarded as a failure to meet the obligations of the subject and as a serious breach of study regulations. As a consequence, the teacher grades the student with "F" and the dean is allowed to initiate a disciplinary action, which might lead to the termination of the studies.
