Course objectives
Given the recurring economic, political and financial crises, it is important to address the skills, processes and conditions that enhance organizational resilience. One of the central skills of organizational resilience is the mindfulness of the manager, his co-workers, and the organization itself. This course is therefore mainly focused on identifying, studying and developing this skill on the side of a leader and his/her team but also deals with organisational antecedents (processes and conditions) that enable its application.

The training of other managerial skills in the context of building and sustaining organizational resilience will be realized through active teaching methods and will enable students to gain and reflect their personal experiences of self-knowledge, improving interpersonal communication, and coping with stressful situations.

Course objectives:
• Students are able to understand the conditions, especially the role of mindfulness, supporting organizational resilience.
• Students are able to identify and analyze cases of mindfulness with respect to organizational resilience and draw general conclusions.
• Students are able to acquire scientific knowledge from primary sources and critically think about them.
• Students are able to derive practical implications from literature and convincingly present their own position on the aspects of organizational resilience, especially mindfulness in organizations.
• Students are proficient in conducting literature review, more precisely they are able to collect and analyze data and evaluate the results of their research.
• Students, individually and as a team, are able to communicate professionally with representatives of resilient organizations, especially in the context of mindfulness in organizations.
Learning outcomes
Student will be able to:
- identify and describe skills that promote organizational resilience;
- identify and describe organisational antecedents (conditions and processes) that support the application of those skills;
- apply this knowledge about organisational resilience into practice.
Syllabus
  • This course has three phases.
  • In the first phase of the course, students learn about existing theoretical knowledge concerning mindfulness in organizations and its relation to organizational resilience. This phase consists of an introductory meeting and a theoretically focused workshop. A part of the first phase is also the identification of the research question, respectively the formulation of a research proposal which will be defended by each students group (3-4 persons). A successful defensio of a research proposal is one of the prerequisites for the admission to the second phase of the course.
  • In the second phase of the course, each students group realizes their research proposal, leaning on the knowledge gained in Phase One. The second phase consists of an analysis of the articles in the databases and is accompanied by coaching by the teacher. At this stage, practical training and development of specific managerial skills also takes place.
  • In the third phase of the course, students present and interpret their theoretical findings as well as the experience gained. This phase of presentations and reflection will take place at the final workshop.

Assessment methods
The course finishes with presentation of a seminar paper and final discussion. Active participation in seminars and preparation are required.
The final classification is passed - failed.
Any copying, recording or leaking tests, use of unauthorized tools, aids and communication devices, or other disruptions of objectivity of exams (credit tests) will be considered non-compliance with the conditions for course completion as well as a severe violation of the study rules. Consequently, the teacher will finish the exam (credit test) by awarding grade "F" in the Information System, and the Dean will initiate disciplinary proceedings that may result in study termination.
