Course objectives
The course deals with theoretical and practical aspects of the financial market.
It first defines the financial market as an integral part of the financial system and hence of the economic system. Then it looks at the main characteristics of financial institutions, as well as their basic products and services. Then the course focuses on interpretation of the theory of interest rates and consequently explains the mechanism of transmission of changes in interest rates (or interest rate) from the central bank to the individual economical subjects. This is followed by the theory of financial investments and by classification and characteristics of individual types of investment instruments. The final part of the course deals with current development trends of the world financial system and the issue of globalization.
Course participants will gain complex, systematic knowledge of financial market and its importace in the economy. They will acquire theoretical and practical knowledge related to financial investment instruments both in terms of their specific properties and concrete ways of practical use. Students will become aware of the existence of interdependence between the financial market theory and macroeconomics, which will help them to understand economy in a broader context.
