Course objectives
Introduction to Political Science (PVZAPO) This course has a general character and it should contribute to broadening the knowledge of social sciences among students with economic, business and administration specialisations. The content of the course is the study of politics as a social phenomenon and its aim is to introduce students to political science as one of human sciences. Students are provided with the opportunity: (1) to become familiar with the nature of politics as a social institution, which is of vital importance for functioning, administration and co-ordination of interests in modern society. (2) to acquire basic facts about institutions and mechanisms of political power. Great stress will be on the presentation of principles ruling democratic organization of political life in the society. Other topics will include ways of democratic decision-making and institutes of political choice, political parties and their function in parliamentary democracy and also some dilemmas of modern democracy. Prerequisite for this course is the knowledge gained in Sociology for Economists, Introduction to Applied Philosophy and Fundamentals of Law. Examination: essay, oral examination.
