Course objectives
Economy of Health Care (SDZD) The course Economy of Health Care is one of the core subjects of the specialisation Economy and Health Care Management. The lectures concentrate particularly on the analysis of health care "markets", their difference from standard markets, causes and forms of their regulation. Following an explanation of the role of governments in providing health care there is a block dealing with the funding of health care; it centres on an analysis of different methods of payment to the care providers and their impact on the providers motivation. The course aims to: a) provide students with the comprehensive knowledge which would enable them to find a job in the field of health care and which outlines the extent and complexity of problems that economists face here, b) arouse deep interest in further study of this highly topical and prospective economic discipline, c) exercise students ability to apply methods of economic analysis to concrete examples and formulate (or be able to argue for) their opinions on controversial theoretical and practical issues. Examination: oral.
