Course objectives
Economy and Management of Health Care Establishments (SDZZ) The course is actually analogous to the course Corporate Economics. The key topics are covered in a condensed way here which are relevant for understanding the practical aspects of the operation of health care establishments and the role of an economist and manager in them. In the management blocks those areas are accentuated which are specific for health care establishments (role of a manager, communication and cooperation with professional medical staff, coordination of economic and medical objectives, organisational structure, strategic management, external and internal factors influencing effectiveness of a health care establishment. In the economic blocks students are introduced to practical situations of a health care establishment s economy. They examine the structure and development of costs and revenues of the establishment, as well as the utilisation of this information in the preparation of financial plans, budgets etc. Examination: written essay of 3 pages (50 %) + oral part (50 %).
