This course is intended primarily for the third year students or higher of the Faculty of Law, who have already passed the legal English examination and MP405Z Obchodní právo I.

Cíle předmětu
The aim of the course is to raise students´ awareness in the analysis of what is really meant and/or hidden on samples of authentic language and to develop language skills in presenting solutions of case studies, negotiation, solving conflicts and specific reading skills. The legal component covers case studies from corporate law, unfair competition and marketing and economics. As a jointly taught course prepared and run by lawyers, specialists in corporate law and unfair competition, an expert in marketing and economics, and an English instructor students will have an opportunity to practise solutions of cases from Czech law in English.
Výstupy z učení
Students will learn the following: - how to work effectively with text and find appropriate legal information and practise language - how to analyse authentic materials and what other information they can gain from the language; - they will practise and improve their strategies in soft skills in English - primarily negotiation, solving conflicts, presentation and persuasion skills; - they will learn how to cooperate effectively in a team; - they will present a case formally and suggest amicable solutions; - they will practise how to support their arguments and back up their solution; - they will improve their active listening, reading skills and speaking.

  • 1. Introduction to the course. A taste of tasks and activities. 2. Case study 1 - Marketing and economics. 3. Case study 2 - unfair competition. 4. Case study 3 corporate law. 5. Presentations and feedback. Discussion. 6. Presentations. Consolidation and round up.

Metody hodnocení
Attendance: 20% Home preparation for seminars including reading tasks - to gain information and prepare for language work, preparation of arguments, written summary and participation in solving case studies in a team: 50% Final panel discussion and Feedback: 30%

This course has been developed for the students of law, who want to extend their knowledge of corporate law, unfair competition, marketing and economics as well as to practise English and improve their soft skills, e.g. argumentation in legal cases, presentations, persuasion etc. Wednesday 16 - 17.40, room 258 (Faculty of Law) Dates: 3.10., 17.10., 31.10., 14.11., 28.11., 12.12. (every other week)
