Course objectives
This course aims to improve especially the reading and writing skills of students with an intermediate knowledge of English. It also aims to consolidate and reaffirm the language learned during previous courses and at the same time introduce new vocabulary.
Syllabus (in Czech)
  • Kurz obsahuje 6 témat. Studenti pracují samostatně na různých aktivitách během semestru. Součástí je trénink porozumění psaných textů, rozšiřování slovní zásoby a upevňování znalostí gramatiky. V diskusních fórech předmětu pak studenti procvičují svůj písemný projev a získávají na něj zpětnou vazbu od vyučujících. Fóra také poskytují prostor k diskusi s ostatními studenty.
Teaching methods
The entire class takes place online. We will work on different kinds of texts, videos and complementary vocabulary and grammar exercises and you’ll be expected to contribute to our discussion fora and submit written assignments.
Assessment methods
There’s no final test. Completion of the course is based upon regular completion of weekly assignments during the semester. You can leave out max. 1 topic. REQUIREMENTS Two weeks are spent on each topic covered in the course. You'll find several revision exercises and a feedback form in the last topic. The last topic is planned to be completed in one week only. Please pay attention to the following information about the tasks and assignments: First week read the texts or watch the video + do the complementary grammar/vocabulary exercises (e.g. true or false, cloze tests). If you score less than 60 %, do the exercise again. start a new discussion thread containing your answer to the questions indicated in the forum (150 words min.) an additional, topic-related material in English (NOT in Czech) - a link to an article, video, cartoon, set of pictures etc.) that gives more information about the discussed topic, presents another point of view, tells us something more, something new... Please comment on the material - say why you are posting it and what ideas you find interesting in it (about 100 words) Please complete these tasks by Wednesday of the given week. Second week complete the grammar/ vocabulary exercises to revise the first week materials (60 % needed to pass) read your colleagues' answers and materials. Choose 2 posts and comment on them (at least 100 words each) re-submit your revised text - focus on areas indicated by the teacher Please complete these tasks by Thursday of the given week.
