Course objectives
The objectives of this course is for students to develop the ability to understand the main points of clear standard input on familiar matters regularly encountered in work, school, leisure, etc. They will be able to deal with most situations likely to arise whilst travelling in an area where the language is spoken. They will be able to understand and produce simple connected text on topics which are familiar or of personal interest. They will be able to describe experiences and events, dreams, hopes and ambitions and briefly give reasons and explanations for opinions and plans.

  • Würden + infinitive for wishes, dreams and imagination, Infinitive mit zu
  • Past tense, Past perfect tense
  • Subordinate clauses with als, wenn und nachdem
  • Würd-, könnt- and sollt- for plans, suggestions and options
  • Direct and indirect questions
  • Personal pronouns in accusative, Directions
  • Reflexive verbs, Reflexive pronouns in dative and accusative
  • Relative clauses + relative pronouns
  • Final clauses with um...zu, Future I
  • Passive in present tense
Assessment methods
At the end of the course students take a written credit test. Regular particiaption, completion of course assignments and passing the final credit test is required.
