Course objectives
The aim of this course is to provide students with a means for developing and extending their use of English with particular emphasis on English related to teaching. It focuses on the English needed in the classroom, for studying the EFL teaching and learning, for participating in teacher development and teacher-training courses, conferences, workshops etc. The framework of the course is based upon a book called Keynote Proficient, which can be purchased at the department. At the end of this course, students should have practised and improved their classroom language as well as the English used in the EFL/ESL/TEFL/TESOL theoretical discourse. They should be able to interpret materials in English for professional development of teachers and make reasoned decisions about their teaching based on theory and practice.
Learning outcomes
This course provides practical application for English including speaking, listening, reading and writing. Students will have opportunities to improve their language use through discussions, exercises and assignments. The course offers various techniques of language learning and teaching while developing a broader understanding of methodology and English speaking cultures. Students will learn to analyze the language for teaching purposes and will be aware of the fact that they have changed their roles - from being the users of the language into being the source of information about the language and language model providers.
