Knowledge of a programming language, familiarity with basic knowledge of the HTML and relational databases. This course is primarily intended for students of the Economical Information Systems branch.

Course objectives
The goal of this course is to present the problems of electronic commerce and to help students with setting up their own electronic commerce. The commerce on the Internet as one of commercial utilization of global net brings many benefits but on the other hand this type of trading may present problems. At the end of this course students will have:
- their own electronic shop in a demo version of electronic commerce with respect to their own business plan.
- formed their own introductory page of electronic shop according to certificate rules with the basic functionality:
e.g. book shop: showing shop contents (a book listing), details of chosen book, bargains etc.

  • Lectures:
  • 1. Allocation of tasks (PHP, MySQL, SQL, HTML, Unix), demonstration of projects.
  • 2. Students’ lectures about PHP, MySQL + SQL, HTML, Unix.
  • 3. Certificate rules.
  • 4. New economy, types of electronic commerce.
  • 5. Models of electronic commerce.
  • 6. Models of electronic commerce.
  • 7. Lecture given by an electronic marketplace owner (practical professional).
  • 8. Electronic commerce in linkage into e-government.
  • 9. Electronic banking, electronic payments.
  • 10. Electronic signature.
  • 11. EDI.
  • 12. XML.

  • Seminars:
  • The contents of the course are divided into two blocks. In the first one every student elaborates a business plan, on the basis of which the electronic shop will be configured and filled with data. In the second part students will create a simplified front page of their electronic shop by means of HTML, PHP, and MySQL.

Assessment methods
The course has a form of lectures and seminars and is concluded by an exam. Students can take part in the exam if they have presented a business plan, which has been assessed. The exam consists of a practical part based on the evaluation of the electronic shop (demo version) and the programmed front page of the shop. In the theoretical part the student has to answer questions related to the lectures. To pass the exam, neither of the two parts can be evaluated by an F.
