Course objectives
The course focuses on sociology as a science concerned with structure and dynamic development of modern society as well as with the social structure and the development itself. The main course frame is based on the discipline of economic sociology. Students will be introduced to basic concepts of economic sociology which are relevant for understanding the function of complex market societies.
Learning outcomes
The course is designed so that the students after the completion:
- understand sociology as a science and understand the relationship between the sociological and economic view on human behavior
- get a basic orientation in the structure and the dynamics of society
- acquire conceptual apparatus for describing the development and structure of society
- gain ability to see economic life from a wider social perspective.
In addition to the theoretical themes, students will also learn about the main research methods.

Teaching methods
The course takes the form of a lectures, seminar discussions and presentations. Students of full-time study will in addition have a chance to acquire the basics of research procedures.
Assessment methods
The course is concluded by the written exam and student can attend the written exam provided that she/he fulfills given conditions:
1. achieving 75% active participation
2. presentation of the (short) paper or elaboration of the research project
3. written test (minimum recquired score is 60%)
Important information! If student commits a prohibited act, such as usage of various forbidden tools, cribbing, taking out any part of the exam or any other cheating, teacher is allowed to interrupt an exam and to grade a student with F, FF or FFF according to the seriousness of the offence. Mentioned procedure relates to all the activities that are included to the final evaluation of the course (seminar work, essays, tests etc.).
