Course objectives
The course contents of three parts: 1. Informative minimum; 2. Introduction to methodology of science and ethics; and 3. Introduction to academic writing.
At the end of the course students will be able to:
* understand a technique of information’s searching
* work with searched information;
* apply basic methods of socio-economic research;
* create academic texts.
Syllabus
  • 1. Informative minimum:
  • * system of university’s libraries;
  • * Aleph, possibilities and using (books’ reservation, new books info, etc);
  • * E-thesis, new books system, journals’ survey, E-bailment;
  • * electronic information (main producers, principles, on-line access);
  • * work with main databases (ProQuest, Monitor tisku, Firemní monitor, Odvětvové analýzy);
  • * scientometrics: WOS and Scopus;
  • 2. Methodology of science:
  • * economics and science system;
  • * relationship between economics and other sciences: religion, philosophy, logic, etc;
  • * specialties of natural and social sciences, historical development;
  • * introduction to methodology of science; methods and techniques of economic research;
  • * scientometrics and quality of research’s evaluation;
  • * structure of empirical research, data searching, hypothesis’ setting, presentation of results;
  • 3. Introduction to academic writing:
  • * forms of documents, structure of academic texts (books, volumes, abstracts, articles, essays, seminar works, thesis);
  • * research and publication ethics; citations, quotations, references;
  • * typographical rules (formats, documents);
  • * referee process.
