Course objectives
The students will be able: - to understand school counseling law - to establish a school counseling team - to co-operate with the school counselors and teachers - to use basic counseling skills - to offer a helping support - to distinguish the help and social control - to use the school law - to use konowledge about school management - to recognize school culture - to understand the team work
Learning outcomes
After finishing the course, the student is able to characterize key concepts from school management and counseling, is knowledgable in school legislation, is able to use theoretical knowledge in practice, is able to evaluate given situation and to propose various solutions.
Syllabus
  • School counseling system. School counseling centres and their mission in schools. Schoool legislation concerning school counseling. The role of the school counsellors. The preventative work in schools. The school psychology in the Czech Republic. The role of the school psychologists. The collaboration of school psychologists and teachers. The requirements put on the school psychiologist and their education. The risks of the collaboration. The ethics of the school counsellors work. The collaboration of the school counselors and parents. Dealing with the parents. The collaboration of the school counseling centre with the external subjects. General questions of management. The main areasof school management. The management, leadership and government of the school. School authonomy. School evaluation and autoevaluation. Organizational development. Democracy in schools. School culture. School as a learning organization, collegiality. External relations of the school. Staff leadership. Staff motivation, teachers work satisfaction. Cooperation and team work in schools. professional development of teachers, teachers career. General juridical questions, juridical system. School legislation.
