Course objectives
Students will learn the managerial, social, psychological and business skills necessary to maintain the activity of sports clubs at different levels of the hierarchy of sports and in various sectors (public, private, non-profit). Enhancement of generic skills: Communication, presentation and interactive group skills - student led presentations and working in groups on a variety of material; Information Technology competence - preparation of event planning, budgets and presentations using the latest ICT means; problem solving – identification and implementation of correct leadership style.
Learning outcomes
On successful completion of the course the students will be able to: Discuss and apply strategy, financial planning and evaluation procedures relevant to respective sport event; propose and implement a marketing plan for the sporting event, demonstrate knowledge of the Human Resource Management for running a sport event.; apply relevant Safety and Security Legislation and procedures; demonstrate an ability to integrate the “Key Skills” into their assignments, projects and presentation. The second part of the course provides students with the opportunity to gain knowledge of the management principles and administration of sports club or facility.

  • First part: 1.Introduction – classification of sport events as an integral part of sport industry 2.The planning cycle for sport events 3.Market research and the development of the sport event concept 4.Human resource planning and management for sport event 5.Financial planning and management of a sport event 6.Marketing of a sport event 7.Safety and security legislation and procedures 8.Elaboration of the timelines and checklists. 9.Realization of a sport event 10.Methods for evaluation of a sports event. Second part: The Club Plan (Understanding the Environment; Scope of Club Services; Single-Sport Club Versus Multisport Clubs; Goals; Policies and Procedures; Club Governance.) Leading a Sport Club (Organizational and Management Theory; Functions of Management; Levels of Management; Leadership Styles) Human Resources Management (Job Description; Hiring Process; New Employee Orientation; Performance Evaluation; Job Satisfaction of Employee Legal Aspects of Club Management (Legal Principles; Contracts) Business Aspects of Club Management (Budgeting and Accounting; Marketing) Sponsorship and Fund-Raising (Sponsorship Versus Fund-Raising; Creating the Corporate Partnership Grant funding )

Teaching methods
Lectures will be supplemented by other studies in preparation for discussions and presentations during the seminar. Seminars are designed so to encourage the use of concepts and theories derived from lectures and training on a specific situation or problem applied to the management of sports events. Students are expected self-study and prepare for seminars including indicative reading texts and case studies. Own learning will be done mainly by preparation of students ' own contributions to the seminar and their continuous work on course assignment
Assessment methods
Written individual or group assignment - an analysis on the topic Management of sporting event or Management of sport club - reflection and evaluation throughout the organization and management of sporting events or sports club management , based on research through direct observation and interviewing the right people. • 25-minute individual or group presentation on the topic of management of sports events (15 minutes’ presentation and 10 minutes of discussion) that allows students to improve their communication and argumentation skills
