Course objectives
The aim of the course is to develop the competence of Ph.D. students to interpret their research problems from social science (e.g., sociology, psychology, pedagogy, etc.) perspective and to communicate their findings to expert audience.
Learning outcomes
After finishing the course, students will be able to
- evaluate similarities and differences between their own, field-specific interpretation of their research problem, and its interpretations based in different discourses;
- reflect and analyze various specific perspectives of selected interdisciplinary topics associated with pro-environmental behavior;
- reflect strong and weak parts of their own competence in communication of their findings to professional audience.
Syllabus
  • 1. An Introduction. An overview in interdisciplinary field: differences between descriptive and normative approaches, research of micro, meso, and macrodimension of relationship between human and nature;
  • 2. Conceptualisation of relationship between human and nature;
  • 3.-4.Methodological aspects of research or pro-environmental behavior;
  • 5.Limited rationality and relationsip between attitudes and behavior;
  • 6.-7.Theoretical reflection of environmental aspects of modern life-style (individualisation, motivation, habitus...);
  • 8. Consumerism and ecologically friendly life-style;
  • 9. Paradigmatic approaches to environmental education;
  • 10. Selected research traditions of environmental education research;
  • 11. Ethical aspects of environmental education;
  • 12. Application of research topics of pro-environmental behavior in practice.

Teaching methods
Team work, discussion about selected interdisciplinary topics, presentation of students' research projects, feedback to students' presentations.
Assessment methods
Mandatory participation in courses (at least 70%) and presentation of students' own research project or finding. Assessing of their competence to discuss their topic from interdisciplinary perspective, a colloquium.
