Course objectives (in Czech)

Předmět poskytuje základní vhled do problematiky městského prostředí a jeho krajinného zázemí, do jejich plánování, využívání a užívání. Studenti se seznámí s logikou prostorového a územního plánování, s procesy tvorby a schvalování územně plánovacích podkladů, územně plánovací dokumentace a politiky územního rozvoje. Studenti dále získají přehled o historii vývoje vztahu města a krajiny a o vývoji urbanismu jako myšlenkové tradice i praxe. Mezi cíle patří i reflexe environmentálních a společenských souvislostí urbanizace, včetně témat jako je participace veřejnosti, ideologické konflikty v prostředí nebo šetrná doprava. Cílem kurzu je rovněž rozvíjet schopnost studentů kriticky číst vybrané texty a analyzovat problémové situace v prostorových vztazích. Studenti se naučí hledat možná řešení vybraných problémů a dokáží konkrétní problémy zobecnit a převést do teoretické roviny. Studenti se seznámí také s některými základními metodami užívanými při výzkumu prostoru.

Syllabus

• A brief history of cities, towns and spatial planning
• Current spatial planning in Czech Republic (urbanism, town and country planning, urban and regional planning, landscape planning)
• Nature in the city
• The city and the ideology
• Public participation
• Environmental implications of urbanization
• Eco-friendly transport in cities
• Current trends in environmentally friendly spatial planning (theory, practice, paradoxes)
• Excursions and field practice (three in total)

Teaching methods

Teaching methods are: lectures, student presentations and discussions, individual work with study materials and field excursion with commentary.

Assessment methods

For successful completion of the course is required at least 50% class participation, oral presentation of selected topic, written essay, reading compulsory literature and passing a test.
