Cíle předmětu
The course deals with civilian and military crisis management under Common Security and Defence Policy of the European Union (EU). We will focus on ways the EU can and does contribute to managing crisis and conflicts beyond its borders, i.e. in the field of EU’s external security (the course is not meant to cover issues of EU’s internal security, such as organized crime, terrorism etc.). Special emphasis will be put on the role played by EU crisis management operations, both from an actor-centred and target-centred perspective. In this sense, we will concentrate on case studies of EU crisis management operations in various parts of the world. Students will get the opportunity to discuss key issues related to EU crisis management with professionals working in the field of civilian as well as military crisis management. The course will be concluded by an assessment of EU's success in the field of civilian and military crisis management.
