Course objectives
The aim of the course is to acquaint students with the basic elements, concepts and facts of the issue of energy security. Due to growing energy consumption of the world economy and declining volume of accessible energy resources there is a considerable influence of the energy-security policies and questions to the area of international relations. Thanks to successful completion of the course students will be able to analyze actors and characteristics of energy-security policies of the global energy security system and evaluate the processes within this system. At the end of the course they will also be able to work with information on the related energy issues, analyse the main global energy trends and formulate solid evaluation of the potential and/or problems of the basic energy resources such as oil, gas and coal for the different regions and countries of the developed and underdeveloped world.

Teaching methods
Lectures involve class discussions and require active participation; position papers improve the ability of students to summarize an issue in the field of energy security; seminar papers improve the ability of students to analyze particular energy issues; readings serve to broaden and deepen the spectrum of knowledge students acquire during lectures.
Assessment methods
Written test (midterm and final); composition of position papers; composition of a seminar paper; active participation in class.
