Course objectives
The students of the course are able to understand the function of referendum in the political system, knows the basic theoretical concepts and is able to compare the importance of voting in elections and referendum. Based on a number of cases, students are able to predict how successful a referendum could be.
Learning outcomes
At the end of the course students should be able to understand and explain the role of referendum in national politics.

Teaching methods

Assessment methods
The students are expected to read the literature and attend lectures. Attendance at lectures is not obligatory. On the contrary, students have to atennd the seminars and participate actively at discussion. The students are required to write a term-paper or present a report focusing on some of the aspects of governance in Europe. Evaluation: written exam (maximum 30 points), term-paper (maximum 10 points), presentation (maximum 10 points) and participation at seminars (maximum 10 points). Grading:A: 50-46 B: 45-42 C: 41-38 D: 37-34 E:33-30, F: 29 and less points.
