Prerequisites
---- IRT ----
In order to successfuly finish the course, the student should have a basic knowledge of R, although any student will have the time to catch up with R during the beginning of the semester. At the same time, student's elementary knowledge of statistics, research methodology and psychometrics (Undergraduate and Master's level) is expected.
.
.
---- Discrete choice analysis ----
Elementary knowledge of statistics and research methodology (Undergraduate and Master's level).
Course Enrolment Limitations
The course is only offered to the students of the study fields the course is directly associated with.
fields of study / plans the course is directly associated with
there are 12 fields of study the course is directly associated with, display
Course objectives
---- IRT ----
The topics from Item Response Theory will be well-understood by the student.
.
.
---- Discrete choice analysis ----
The goals of the course are to get acquainted with discrete choice research, its applications, its typical research design, analysis and interpretation.
Learning outcomes
---- IRT ----
The student will be able to apply IRT in both basic and applied research. They will also gain the necessary competence for independent further study of more advanced IRT-related topics.
.
.
---- Discrete choice analysis ----
The student will be able to design a simple experimental study for the research of stated preferences, and will have the necessary knowledge about respective data analyses and basic interpretation.
Syllabus
  • ---- IRT ----
  • 1. Epistemological foundations of IRT models. Rasch model.
  • 2. Multi-parametric IRT models; models for polytomous responses.
  • 3. How to routinely analyse items using the Rasch model.
  • 4. IRT as an example of full-information item factor analysis. mIRT.
  • 5. Multigroup IRT (MG IRT), DIF analysis.
  • 6. Generalization of the Rasch model as a log-linear or a GLMM model.
  • .
  • .
  • ---- Discrete choice analysis ----
  • 1. Foundations of discrete choice research
  • 2. Experimental design
  • 3. Experimental design: generating scenarios
  • 4. Pilot research
  • 5. Discrete choice analysis
  • 6. Interpreting discrete choice analysis

Workshop, lecture.
Assessment methods
---- IRT ----
In order to finish the course, a student needs to attend at least 80% of the classes (thus, approximately 1 to 1.5 classes can be skipped). The course is graded on the basis of individual consultation/discussion between the lecturer and the student. For the consultation/discussion, the knowledge of the topic and class material is expected, as well as materials chosen based on individual preference.
