Course objectives
Students will be introduced to questions of marital counseling. On basis of analysis of real casuistries students learn basis of lay as well as professional counseling in different areas of marital counseling. The first part of each lesson is focused on actual problems of real clients (the personal details are changed). In the other part letters from clients are discussed (the personal details are changed, too).
The goal of the course is to learn the style and thinking of marital counselor and principles of interventions.

At the end of this course, students should be able to:

Syllabus
  • Content (12 lectures)
  • 1st and 2nd lesson: Basis of lay counseling. The difference between lay and professional counseling.
  • 3rd to 5th lesson: Basic problems of premarital coexistence – adaptation, myths about marriage, harmonizing of expectations, unwritten partnership agreement, types of love.
  • 6th to 10th lesson: Marital conflict – infidelity, jealousy, interventions of other people, harmonizing of two careers, alcohol, problems of childless families and alternative family care.
  • 11th and 12th lesson: Pre-divorce and divorce problems, the outcome of the divorce to children, Parental Alienation Syndrome.
